Our winery and estate are situated in the heart of the Collio area, in Valerisce di San Floriano.

Our family winery and 12 hectares of vineyards are located on these rolling hills, which are ideal for viticulture, right next to the border with Slovenia.

The estate is nestled in an awe-inspiring, natural environment: the grapevines are the same our ancestors grew with special care already at the end of the nineteenth century, way before Antonio Humar began his activity.

San Floriano del Collio

A family tradition that has its roots in the history of the Collio area, a most suitable land for quality winegrowing.

Our vineyards are planted on the slopes of friable marlstone in San Floriano del Collio– where the climate is the result of refreshing cool winds from the mountains mitigated by the sea breeze.

Our grapevines thrive thanks to the variety of microclimates and the quality of soil, ideal for growing Pinot Bianco, Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, as well as some equally exceptional red wines such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Nero. The passion, commitment, and professionalism of Humar translate into beautifully healthy grapes, and meticulous wine crafting, aging and bottling carried out using the most advanced oenology equipment.

In our winery, where we have always worked towards innovation with utmost respect for tradition, we produce wines from local grape varieties.

Located between the Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea, the Collio hills enjoy an ideal microclimate, which is temperate and dry. The soil of our vineyards is composed of marls and sandstone, rich in minerals and microelements that give the wines their distinctive characteristics.

Indeed, the territory has experienced many changes and border shifts, and as a result the different peoples have mingled in this regional melting pot. It is here that the Humar winery and estate was established in the early twentieth century.

Antonio Humar started farming on about two hectares of land. As was typical in the area in those days, the farm included growing fruit trees and keeping dairy cattle. In the 1950s Antonio handed over the baton to his sons Marcello and Marino, who renovated the vineyards and winery to modern standards, specializing in viticulture, and in particular growing the varieties included in the Collio DOC appellation.

Tradizione

The history of the Humar winery and estate mingles with that of the borderland it lies on.

Marino had the merit of understanding the potential of his wine thanks also to his total dedication to the land and profound knowledge of viticulture. Since 1960, at Humar, we only bottle wines of our own production. Masterly experimentation has led our winery to premium winegrowing and making, which has earned us a number of awards and accolades.

At Humar we produce some 60 thousand bottles of wine a year. Today the estate and wine operation are run by Dario and his wife, Nataša. Together they proudly carry on the family tradition with courage, determination, and an innovative spirit.

Humar stands for tradition, reliability, and passion for wine.
